Faircape Life operates six high-end retirement villages in the Western Cape.These Estates are located in Noordhoek, Kirstenhof, Tokai, Somerset West and Onrus. These villages offer residents the opportunity to enjoy high-quality living within vibrant, supportive communities. Each village is pet friendly and has a Clubhouse, Healthcare facility and beautifully maintained gardens, pool, gym and library.
We are looking for a Horticulturist to join our team and play a vital role in enhancing and maintaining the landscaping and gardens of 3 of our luxury retirement villages within the Southern Suburbs. (Tokai Estate, Cle Du Cap and Noordhoek Manor)

Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Garden Maintenance: Ensure the gardens are visually appealing and thriving throughout the year. Offer expert advice on the selection, ordering, planting, and care of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and turf grasses.
- Record Keeping: Keep detailed records of all planting activities, garden operations, and maintenance work.
- Plant Care: Use in-depth knowledge of plants and their needs to ensure healthy growth. Conduct regular garden inspections to address pests, diseases, and weed control promptly. Apply horticultural practices like soil nutrition, sustainable gardening, and pest management to promote plant health.
- Seasonal Planning: Create and maintain a horticultural calendar to plan for bloom periods and seasonal care requirements and seasonal maintenance .
- Plant Tagging:management of inhouse nursery plants, track planting locations, and maintain accurate plant tags in the gardens.
- Team Management: Motivate and train staff regularly to uphold high standards.
- Project Management: Oversee and implement new garden projects to continually enhance the landscape.
- Prepare and present landscaping proposals for common areas and newly renovated cottage gardens.
- Present Garden talks to residents
- Preparing workflows for the garden crew duties.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications in Agriculture, Horticulture or Biological Sciences.
Experience and Knowledge
- Proven experience in horticulture/agriculture field.
- Experience in managing a successful garden or agricultural operation at the highest level.
- Strong knowledge of plant biology, soil science, and environmental conditions.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and drainage.
Skills and Attributes
- Leadership and Team Management: Strong ability to lead, train, and motivate staff to uphold high horticultural standards.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and address plant health issues, including pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Organizational Skills: Capability to manage multiple tasks, including record-keeping, planning, and project execution.
- Knowledge of the elementary principles of landscaping.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust plans based on weather conditions, unexpected challenges, or new projects.
Specific Requirements:
- Own transport
- Clear criminal record
- Contactable references, written references preferable

Normal working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 08h00 until 17h00 with a 45 minute lunch break. The company allows employees, by approval of the direct manager, to work flexi time between 07h00 and 18h00.
Salary from R 30 000 Cost to Company per month. The salary will be dependable on experience, qualifications, skills and attributes.
