We are seeking a Meter Reader to join our Claremont-based team and play a vital role in ensuring accurate meter data and smooth utility operations.

Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Accurately capture electricity meter readings across residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
- Identify and report irregular consumption patterns or suspected faults.
- Ensure all readings are logged correctly into the central system for billing and compliance purposes.
- Perform routine water meter checks at designated properties.
- Detects and escalates anomalies such as suspected leaks, tampering, or unregistered usage.
- Record readings clearly and systematically to support operational accuracy.
- Adhere strictly to Faircape’s operating procedures and safety standards while on-site.
- Handle sensitive property access with professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
- Provide accurate data that supports financial and operational decision-making.
- Support facility teams with ad-hoc operational tasks when not engaged in meter routes.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure seamless service delivery across the Group.
Qualifications
- Basic Electrical Training (N1–N3 Electrical Engineering) advantageous
- Health & Safety Training (OHS Compliance Certificates) advantageous
- Technical short courses in utility metering (some private training providers offer 3–5 day courses in water and electricity meter reading, smart metering, and AMR/AMI systems).
Experience and knowledge
- Previous meter reading experience is essential.
- Previous data analysis/processing experience (advantageous)
- Knowledge of meters and basic electrical background is advantageous.
Skills and attributes
- Accuracy & Attention to Detail – must ensure readings are correct, as these impact billing and operational data.
- Time Management & Reliability – ability to complete routes and readings within strict deadlines.
- Independence & Initiative – comfortable working unsupervised while taking ownership of tasks and reporting issues promptly.
- Communication Skills – able to interact politely with tenants, clients, and colleagues, and escalate issues clearly.
- Problem-Solving – capable of identifying irregularities and suggesting solutions or escalating appropriately.
- Technical Aptitude – practical understanding of utility meters and willingness to learn new systems.
- Adaptability – flexible to assist with generator checks, refuelling, and other ad-hoc duties when required.
Specific requirements
- Must have a valid drivers license
- No criminal and credit record
- Two written references
Normal working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 08h00 until 17h00. The company allows employees, by approval of the direct manager, to work flexi-time between 07h00 and 18h00.
With centrally located and modern offices just across from Cavendish in Claremont, Faircape offers above market-related salaries. The amount offered will be dependent on qualifications, experience, and other market-related factors.
