We are seeking an experienced Senior Shift Leader (Unit Manager) – Registered Nurse (Day Shift) to join our team at Clé du Cap Healthcare Centre, based in Kirstenhof in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing nursing care delivery, managing daily shifts, and ensuring exceptional, person-centred clinical outcomes. You will lead and support nursing staff and carers while working closely with doctors, allied healthcare professionals, management, and our dedicated HR team.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership & Care Delivery
- Oversee and coordinate all nursing care within the unit, ensuring high clinical standards at all times
- Develop, implement, and regularly review individualised resident care plans
- Ensure care plans align with clinical requirements, resident preferences, and best-practice standards
- Conduct high-risk assessments and ensure accurate, compliant clinical documentation
- Ensure safe medication administration, storage, and blister-pack management in line with protocols
- Implement and maintain infection prevention and control standards
Operational & Shift Management
- Manage daily staffing, shift allocations, and operational flow of the unit
- Monitor staff compliance with care plans, policies, and procedures
- Manage clinical stock levels, par levels, and supply requirements
- Identify, address, and correct staff performance or behavioural issues when required
Emergency & Incident Management
- Act in line with policies during medical emergencies, including contacting emergency services when required
- Ensure adherence to residents’ living wills and advance directives
- Communicate incidents and resident deaths timeously to families and the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- SANC registered as a Registered Nurse.
- Up-to-date Basic Life Support certification is advantageous.
Experience and Knowledge:
- Proven experience as a Unit Manager or Senior Shift Leader
- Experience in a similar leadership position is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Dementia care, Frail care, and Palliative care is advantageous.
- Proficiency in organizing and delivering training sessions for staff development.
- Experience with staff scheduling, supervision, and training

- Clinical Expertise: Strong clinical skills and experience in nursing practice, including assessments, treatments, and patient care.

- Problem-Solving: Capability to make critical decisions, solve complex problems, and handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to handle changing circumstances and adapt quickly to new protocols or procedures.
- Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment, working closely with other healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Ability to effectively manage a nursing unit's daily operations.
- Skilled in addressing and correcting staff behaviour or performance issues.
- Time Management: Efficiently manage time and resources during shifts to prioritise patient care and operational tasks.
Specific Requirements:
- Clear health record.
- Clear criminal record.
- Clear credit record.
- Two written references.
Working Hours:
- Normal working days are Monday to Sunday.
- You will be required to work 16.25 shifts per month.
- Night shifts are from 07h00 - 19h00
